American Practical Navigator Bowditch PUB No. 9. The American Practical Navigator also called Bowditch is one of the world's best navigation manuals and serves both as a reference book and a text manual. Its first edition was published 1801 and the current edition is not numbered, but more than 50 editions have been published since the Government bought the rights in 1867. It contains the full syllabus of navigation: terrestrial, astronomical and electronical. Included are a number of tables and a very comprehensive glossary of navigation expressions. The tables include logarithms, meridional parts, conversion tables for units, range, dip etc. All tables for astronomical observations and for meteorology.
