The Naval Handbook for Survivors

Abandoning ship is just as much a team effort as firefighting. The aim is to enable as many people as possible to survive by using lifesaving equipment effectively. Because naval ships are exposed to extreme hazards, survival training is taken very seriously at all levels throughout the Service. The Royal Navy's main survival craft is the 25 man inflatable life raft on which the handbook is based. Section 1 covers: Immediate action, searching for other survivors, securing the raft, communicating and congregating. Section 2covers the subject of command and organization whilst maintaining the raft in a sound condition. Section 3 covers the subject of rations, stores and equipment and the final section covers land survival, how to make shelters in different climates and how to obtain water and food. This book is issued to all naval seagoing personnel.
