The International Maritime Organization

IMO is a specialised agency of the United Nations (UN) responsible for promoting safe, secure, and environmentally-friendly shipping worldwide. Established in 1948, the IMO is headquartered in London, United Kingdom. The primary goal of the IMO is to develop and maintain a comprehensive regulatory framework for international shipping. It works towards ensuring that shipping operations are conducted in a safe, efficient, and environmentally sustainable manner. The IMO's regulations cover various aspects of maritime safety, security, pollution prevention, and maritime legal matters.
