The book is intended for use by students of navigation and nautical science, either enrolled in a class or studying on their own. It is equally suitable as a reference for practicing navigators at sea, as well technical personnel in related activity ashore. The intention with this textbook was to include all navigational instruments that are to be found on modern ships. This include advanced survey-, offshore-, DP- and fishing vessels. The content is prepared to the greatest degree possible to cover the description in IMO model courses, as well as the description given in the revised STCW-95 convention (Manila 2010 amendment) on the operational and management level. Some of the system theory must also be considered to have a level slightly above STCW.
