Ballast Water Management: Understanding the retrofitting of BWM Systems from 2026, 16th Edition, Volumes 1-2
Ballast Water Management: Understanding the retrofitting of BWM Systems from 2026, 16th Edition, Volumes 1-2
The16th edition has been fully revised to reflect current requirements in the management of ballast water following ratification of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments (BWM Convention).
Since 8 September 2024, all ships subject to the BWM Convention must comply with the D-2 ballast water discharge standard, usually by installing and operating a BWMS.
This two-volume publication is a single-point reference for ship owners and operators, covering regulations, operations (including port State control (PSC) requirements) andequipment options
Volume 1 - details treatment systems andtechnologies, key components, onboard operation, maintenance and contingency planning. With retrofitting largely complete, the focus has shifted to newbuild installations and maintenance, though experience with retrofits remains vital as older or poorly performing systems are replaced.
Volume 2 - provides data sheets on type-approved BWMS, including treatment technology, certification and system design limitations (SDL), helping ship owners make informed purchasing decisions.
The Appendices include an updated list of IMO Guidance Documents (to MEPC 83) and information on invasive species and their geographic ranges
