The Admiralty Vector Chart Service (AVCS) brings together Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC) from national Hydrographic offices around the world in an unique ENC service with worldwide coverage with official ENCs. AVCS is produced by United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO).
AVCS contains only ENC data that meets SOLAS Carriage Requirements for use within Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS).
AVCS is delivered in S-63 format
. S-63 is the International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO)
standard for the protection of ENC information.
AVCS is provided under a licence agreement that permits the use for defined periods of time. ENC Units may be added to an AVCS licence at any time for periods of 3, 6, 9 or 12 months.
Updates to AVCS is supplied weekly on CD as standard, ensuring that every AVCS customer has a complete and up to date set of data on board.
Updates are also available over the Internet by using either e-Navigator or the Updating Service, free of charge. The Updating Service can be used to obtain direct updates to AVCS or by email.
As an part of the AVCS Service the Admiralty Information Overlay (AIO) is supplied. AIO is a digital data set that is designed to be displayed over ENCs in the ECDIS to provide additional information to the navigator.
The Overlay contains all Admiralty Temporary & Preliminary (T&P) Notice to Mariners (NM). The Overlay includes all Admiralty T&P in force worldwide and additional information that relates specifically to ENCs, published as ENC Preliminary NM (EP NM).
